Digital X-ray and TB screening in Nigeria

Tuberculosis remains one of Nigeria’s biggest public health challenges, and finding cases early is key. Portable digital X-ray with artificial intelligence lets screening programmes reach communities far from radiologists. I have helped bring this technology to West Africa at scale.

Track record

At Fujifilm Healthcare, I managed sales and distribution across English-speaking West Africa and delivered more than 100 AI-enabled digital X-ray systems for TB screening. At the National Tuberculosis Conference 2021, I presented how X-ray with artificial intelligence strengthens TB diagnosis, and showcased an ultra-portable, battery-powered X-ray system built for screening where power and specialists are scarce.

How I help screening and imaging programmes

  • Choosing the right system: matching fixed, mobile and ultra-portable X-ray to where screening happens: clinics, outreach camps, prisons, mines or communities.
  • AI-assisted reading: planning how computer-aided detection fits screening workflows and referral to confirmatory testing.
  • Deployment at scale: procurement, installation, training and service across many sites and states.
  • Partners and funding: working with national programmes, implementing partners and funders to plan sustainable screening.

Beyond TB

The same experience applies to wider medical imaging, from hospital radiology to diagnostic centres, and to laboratory systems that confirm what imaging finds. As Commercial Director at Franance Health System Limited, I work across diagnostics, medical imaging, laboratory systems and hospital solutions.

Questions

How does AI help TB screening with X-ray?

Computer-aided detection software reads chest X-rays and flags those likely to show TB, so screening programmes can triage large numbers of people quickly and refer the right ones for confirmatory testing, even where radiologists are not available.

Can portable X-ray work without stable electricity?

Battery-powered, ultra-portable X-ray systems are designed for exactly that, which is why they suit community and outreach screening in Nigeria.

How many AI-enabled X-ray systems have you delivered?

More than 100 AI-enabled digital X-ray systems for TB screening while managing sales and distribution across English-speaking West Africa for Fujifilm.
